This section of my website used to be dedicated to triathlon training, personal race results and certification reviews, like Turbo Kick. I am expanding it to include more generic health & fitness topics. Also, I talk a lot about "D" -- he's my husband (Dave Liu)!

Chain Oil Removal

Somebody posted to the Velo Girls mailing list asking how to remove chain oil from her waterproof jacket. I know I'll need this information later so I'm posting responses here:

  • Use regular butter: enough on the stain, scrub a little and let stand a few hours. Then wash.
  • The VERY best oil/grease remover ever is Fast Orange. Use it WITHOUT water to break up the oil.....most any gritty, orange, pumice product does the trick. Just apply a little elbow grease in the process
  • Simply Green
  • Fels Naptha soap
  • Dawn for Dishes
  • NikWax Tech Wash. Put it on undiluted with a soft cloth and rub
