Subbed the Saturday AM cardio kickboxing for the last time this month. The class was back to its normal size which was a relief. The regular instructor, Karen, returns next week. While I'm glad that I don't have to schlepp over to this particular Y to teach on Saturday mornings, I think part of me will miss it because the participants have come to know me and appreciate my style of teaching. One lady even said that she likes taking my class because I "kick it up a notch". What a nice thing to say.
I had a complete epiphany when I was driving home from work one day which was to COPMLETELY dumb down the warm-up. That's one of my pet peeves with Turbo Kick -- the warm-up is pretty cool, but it's frustrating for people new to Turbo Kick. And since the warm-up is where you want people to rehearse moves and become familiar with the kicks and punches (especially if they are new to cardio kickboxing in general), the last thing you want is something dancey that requires a high degree of coordination. I tried my simplified warm-up and it went off without a hitch. Gotta remember that for next time if I ever sub somebody else's kickboxing class in the future.
