This section of my website used to be dedicated to triathlon training, personal race results and certification reviews, like Turbo Kick. I am expanding it to include more generic health & fitness topics. Also, I talk a lot about "D" -- he's my husband (Dave Liu)!

Emergency Surgery

I'm kinda depressed. In case you've been wondering why I haven't written anything about my training in the past few weeks, it's because I've been holed up at home recovering from major surgery. I've been debating over whether to divulge details of what happened and the procedure, and still haven't made up my mind. For now, what I will say is that what happened could not have been prevented. Some of my friends asked whether it was due to overtraining. I wanted to laugh but couldn't (see below). I think they secretly wanted me to say yes so they use it as another excuse to why they aren't exercising more!

I'm finally walking around again, but I become exhausted very easily. Most of the internal pain is gone, and I'm left with incision pain from an evil looking 5.5" scar in my midsection. After my operation, I remembered what abdominal muscles are used for: fricking EVERYTHING. It hurts to cough, sneeze, laugh, move, ...

I hope to be back to training in a few weeks' time. I desperately want to do the Cinderella Metric Century in late March but don't know whether I'll be in any condition to do it. Here's to a speedy recovery!
