This section of my website used to be dedicated to triathlon training, personal race results and certification reviews, like Turbo Kick. I am expanding it to include more generic health & fitness topics. Also, I talk a lot about "D" -- he's my husband (Dave Liu)!

Jody Coaches Swimming

Today's workout:

  • Warm up
  • 2 rounds: 150M pull
  • 2 rounds: 50M swim, 50M stroke (anything except crawl), 50M swim
  • 150M pull... there was more but we skipped to the next part
  • 3 rounds: 5x 100M
    1. +5, +0, -5, +0, +5
    2. +0
    3. Same as the first or second round

There were 12 lanes but Jody made us squish into 10. She did a good job explaining the workout but provided the least feedback out of all the coaches I've met so far.

A great athlete does not necessarily make a great coach, especially when teaching novices. Those who are athletically gifted do things instinctively, and they often don't understand why other people "don't get it". Worse still, they may not even know what somebody is doing incorrectly, and hence don't know which cues to use to help that person improve.
